Grow Further Expands Into India

Grow Further has officially launched its India program, expanding support for agricultural innovation that benefits smallholder farmers. The launch was marked by the participation of India’s former Vice President, Hon’ble Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, and the creation of a new international award in partnership with the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF).

The M.S. Swaminathan–Grow Further Award

This award honors scientists in developing countries whose research helps smallholder farmers—especially those most vulnerable to climate change. The inaugural recipient, Dr. Mamta Sharma of ICRISAT, was recognized for developing disease-resistant crops and climate-smart practices. She received the $25,000 award during celebrations of Professor M.S. Swaminathan’s 100th birthday, honoring his legacy as a pioneer of sustainable agricultural development.

Building Partnerships and Funding Innovation

Grow Further leaders have traveled to India to listen, learn, and build partnerships with local communities. As part of this expansion, we issued a call for research proposals, receiving 323 submissions from universities, nonprofits, and research institutes. Finalists will soon be announced, with selected projects advancing sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and improved nutrition.
